Holy Week reads

Omg, I just want to say that I pulled the trigger and paid for the Bear Blog subscription, and I can now easily upload photos! Wheeeeee! Mayhap this will be the serious start to moving here from Instagram! Anyway, actual post below, which is basically a repost from IG. (Yeah, that's what I sound like on IG.) Wheeeeeeeee! (I am really happy about this development.)

Not really “holy” Holy Week reading, as I’m strictly a mood-or-assignment reader now (only what I’m in the mood for or if I have an assignment for work or friends). Would’ve wanted to read more (story of our lives?), but there were chores (DEFINITELY story of our lives).

THE UNSELECTED JOURNALS OF EMMA M. LION, VOL. 1 by Beth Brower - thank you to Ilia, who has been raving about this series. Gave in and read the first book. It’s Anne of Green Gables, but British feels, so very charming. Also quick reads, so maybe I’ll blow through the series, too, like Ilia!

RULES FOR RUIN (The Crinoline Academy Book 1) by Mimi Matthews - I know I sold in this book, but I saw it again recently on a list (I can’t even remember which list), and thought the cover was pretty good. So I thought I’d try it, and my gosh, it was such a joy to read. FMC is tasked to neutralize a misogynist lord to clear the way for passing the Marriage Equality Act in England, but a gambling lord MMC (giving off Tommy Shelby vibes) needs his protection and support to improve living conditions in a London slum. Effie the FMC is a refreshing character, giving MMC Gabriel no quarter, and Gabriel, like all good MMCs, ADJUSTS. If like me, you’ve been hankering after reads like Evie Dunmore’s League of Extraordinary Women series, this is right up your alley. Fair warning that there is very little spice, but there is yearning and hotness aplenty. There is also a second book, which I’m excited to get into! (FYI that if I work w/ you, you will likely get an email from me abt this series tomorrow.😆)

FRENCH EXIT by Patrick DeWitt - I figured I should really get to the books I bought 5yrs ago (😂), hence this book! Still reading it, and periodically thinking if I’m all that interested in lives of rich, dilettante New Yorkers, but because of the writing, I am, I am.

I hope you, too, got some reading in in the middle of chores and other life things. Happy Easter!
