Coffeespoons reading journal

No-social-media Sunday

This is what I tried to do last Sunday. And I was actually successful. Had some preliminary discussions with I—- about whether reading Reddit on Feedly would break my ban, but I decided that it wouldn’t really. Because I picked my feed and it’s not an infinite scroll, and besides, we do set the parameters of our challenges anyway.

So spent Sunday bringing my kid to their sports thing, napping, going to the salon and doing some light shopping, and then hanging out at Dairy Queen while reading a book. It honestly wasn’t so hard not to open social media. Perhaps it’s all the daily practice of not opening it till hours after I’ve gotten up; perhaps it’s also because it’s become somewhat boring.

(I can’t fully leave them, because of work. Or at least, that’s my excuse.)

But like all addictions, once I get locked into doomscrolling, I can so easily lose minutes; on occasion, hours.

And that is why I’m here.

Hopefully next time, it’ll be even easier still. Maybe we’ll end the year with avoiding social media for the whole weekend. Something to aspire to.
